We visited Tallulah last weekend and while we were there, Dad drove us all up to the levee to see the Mighty Mississippi flooding its banks. All the land over the levee is flooded. We've seen this before, but it's still pretty amazing. Click on the pictures to see a larger view.
A borrow pit is filled and all the land surrounding as well.
The cattle we saw were all hanging out on the levee.
The red floating mass in the water is ants (explanation at http://claycoleman.tripod.com/id180.htm).
This used to happen at the house when the bayou would flood as well. Not fun.
In the background of the picture is the main river channel. A cow is out on the spit of land that is not covered with water. We hope it was able to get to dry land.
I-20 at Delta, LAToday, we went up to the levee over by LSU here in Baton Rouge. It's pretty darn high here too.

The water's right up on the levee right now. The people in this picture are on a little road which leads down to a "batture" area where I used to take Moose to swim in the river all the time. No swimming today! You can see barges in the main channel. Pretty close!
Moose and Lucy were PSYCHED to go out to the levee. Moose would have preferred to have been off leash, but it wasn't an option as we didn't feel like dealing with muddy wet river dogs!
